The Chanel Company is one that has been around for centuries now, and over its time in business its popularity has soared to incredible extremes. It is now not only known for being one of the most quality and classic cosmetics companies but fashion companies in general, and there is really no one in the world who has not heard of Chanel in at least some way before.

The company has truly parlayed itself into being a world-leading retail empire, and Chanel also owns and operates its own network of more than 80 company-owned retail stores worldwide. There are also more than 120 Chanel shop-in-shop boutiques in leading department stores around the world.

During this new millennium, Chanel has greatly stepped up its purchases in the luxury sector, in particular acquiring A. Michel et Cie, exclusive hat maker for the haute couture set and the famed Las brodieres Lesage, which provides embroidery for the haute couture industry. These acquisitions work to superbly compliment the company’s existing fashion industry holdings, and furthermore, Chanel has also been attempting to break further into the skin care segment, launching under the Precision brand.

Chanel cosmetics are considered as being some of the best in the world, namely because of just how incredibly high quality they are. They are more durable than almost any other cosmetics, and as well the actual look of the cosmetics is unlike any other. How It All Started

Ironically, the first “Avon lady” was actually a man. In the 1880’s a young door-to-door salesman named David McConnell from New York was peddling books and perfumes around the neighborhood. He used perfume samples as his entry point in selling his books at that time. Soon he discovered that the women to whom he usually tried to sell his books loved his perfumes more than they love his books. In fact, most of his women customers were more interested about buying his sample perfume than buying his books. Sensing that there was a future in selling perfume, McConnell started concocting perfumes himself and tried to peddle these perfumes door-to-door. The response of the women to his perfume was so encouraging that McConnell was convinced that this was the right business for him.

When the company started to grow, McConnell engaged the services of the first real “Avon lady”. Mrs. P.F.E. Albee, a widow, started selling Avon cosmetics door-to-door and was so successful at it that she started recruiting other ladies in her neighborhood to join her. The first team of Avon ladies then started selling Avon cosmetics in different parts of New York and by 1887, there were already twelve Avon ladies peddling different types of fragrances. From that time on, there were no stopping Avon cosmetics from becoming the first company to successfully establish a door-to-door selling business in the United States. Thousands of women were so interested in the business opportunities that Avon had to offer that they literally trooped into the training centers of Avon cosmetics to learn how to sell Avon products. It is not uncommon, even today, to find several women packed inside the training rooms of Avon outlets all over the world.

The Beginning of Almay Cosmetics

Almay Cosmetics was born in 1931; the name is a combination of Alfred and Fanny May. Since then, it has provided women with sensitive skin an alternative to the heavy make up which were available during that time.  It has been a constant innovator in skincare and it was the first company that could really say they make hypoallergenic cosmetics.

Almay Cosmetics was the first cosmetic brand to make products which were 100% fragrance-free and they were also the first to disclose all ingredients that they used on their cosmetics. They were a leader in firsts and up until the recent decades they have also kept up with the times and produced more hypoallergenic products.

All Natural Ingredients

Almay Cosmetics employ the use of all-natural ingredients which they list down in each of their product packaging. Some of these ingredients are meadowsweet, grape seed, cucumber, The Story of Moringa, aloe, milk thistle, licorice, soy bean, rose hips and more.

The first three ingredients are usually used for cosmetics that are for individuals with different skin types. The Story of Moringa is a kind of tree that is native to India. The leaves, flowers and pods of the tree contain more vitamin C, vitamin A and potassium than some fruits and vegetables. Almay Cosmetics use the Story of Moringa for their anti-ageing line of cosmetics.

Aloe, milk thistle, licorice, soy bean and rose hips are used for other various cosmetic purposes. Almay Cosmetics have studied each and every ingredient which they incorporate into their cosmetics and they assure users that these are the best ingredients available. The Most Common Chemicals in Cosmetics

There are a few types of chemicals in cosmetics that are used more often than others, and they are: phthalates, musks, and allergic reactions. With phthalates, these are found in nearly three-quarters of name-brand cosmetics products, and what phthalates really are is common plasticizing ingredients that are found to be linked to birth defects in the reproductive system of boys at exposure levels that are typical to about one-quarter of women.

This means that if you are using cosmetics products that contain phthalates, that you are actually at risk of passing on birth defects to your unborn children, which is quite obviously a very frightening concept.

Another of the most commonly used chemicals in cosmetics is musks, and artificial musks end up actually accumulating in our bodies, and they are often then detected in breast milk and blood, and therefore can be passed on to children in utero, as well as those after birth who are being breastfed. There are nitromusks and polycyclic musks, to be more specific, and each has its own results.

Nitromusks are those which are more often linked to skin irritation, sensitization, and even cancer, while the polycyclic musks are considered as being a sort of alternative to nitromusks and as of yet have not been shown to have any negative side effects.
